Victim of Wheaton fire identified
Wheaton police today identified the 48-year-old Wheaton woman who died during a Sunday morning townhouse fire.
Authorities still are investigating the exact cause of the fire that claimed the life of Vicki R. Foster.
Wheaton police believe the early morning fire at 1541 Sandhurst Court was accidental, according to a statement released by the city of Wheaton.
DuPage County's arson task force, as well as Wheaton's fire and police departments, still are investigating the cause of the blaze. Officials have said they don't believe foul play was involved.
Foster was found dead at the scene.
A preliminary autopsy conducted today determined Foster died from smoke inhalation, according to a statement released by the DuPage County coroner's office. Toxicology reports weren't immediately available.
Firefighters found Foster's body near the closet of her second-story unit's bedroom.
The fire was put out within 30 minutes. The townhouse is one of four attached units with a common foyer and hallway to the garages.
Residents in the remaining three units were evacuated and will have to be temporarily relocated because of the fire and smoke damage in the building.
