Route 53 shut down in multi-truck crash

Three drivers were taken to area hospitals after a collision involving four trucks on northbound Route 53 near Higgins Road in Schaumburg this afternoon.

The crash, which shut down a small stretch of northbound Route 53, occurred at around 1 p.m. and involved two semi trucks, a box truck and a pickup, Schaumburg Fire Capt. Jerry Leska said.

None of the victims' injuries appeared to be life-threatening, he added. All were drivers of their respective vehicles, which were carrying on passengers.

Traffic on northbound Route 53 was rerouted from Higgins Road to just past Woodfield until about 2:30 p.m., Leska said.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.

Ambulances from Schaumburg, Rolling Meadows and Elk Grove Village transported the victims.
