Wheaton North 42, Glenbard East 0

A Wheaton North homecoming crowd was treated to a fireworks show at halftime. The explosions started long before that, however.

The host Falcons used a trio of big plays to score touchdowns on their first three possessions en route to a 42-0 DuPage Valley Conference rout of Glenbard East Friday at Rexilius Field in Wheaton.

Mike Trumpy lit the fuse for the home team. On a fourth-and-1 situation midway into the first quarter, the junior ran through the right side untouched for a 37-yard touchdown.

Trumpy wound up with 203 yards and 2 TDs on 29 carries.

"That kid's unbelievable," Wheaton North coach Matt Foster said. "He's got great vision and he's got a great motor. The kid just never stops."

"Once again, every week the line just keeps coming out," Trumpy said.

Wheaton North (4-2, 2-2) made it 14-0 later in the first quarter. On a third-and-9, Eric Terrazas threw a 56-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline to Corey Thonn.

The Falcons found the end zone again on a fourth-down play to create a 21-0 cushion. On a fourth-and-1 Terrazas bounced out of a line logjam and used his second effort to turn his sneak into a 21-yard TD run at 7:54 of the second quarter.

Foster explained why his team went for a first down twice on fourth-down situations.

"It's just believing in your kids in part, and part of it's field position," Foster said. "I'm not going to be crazy and go for every one."

"We just got to tackle better," Glenbard East coach Dennis Lueck said of the Falcons scoring twice on fourth down. "We didn't tackle in those situations. We did a lot of diving, and we've got to stay on our feet and run through those tackles."

Terrazas' play was just what Wheaton North needed with starting quarterback Taylor Graham sidelined by a concussion suffered a week earlier.

Terrazas completed 9 of 11 passes for 146 yards in helping the Falcons outgain Glenbard East (1-5, 0-4) 506 to 143 yards.

"He did a great job," Foster said. "Going both ways playing defensive back and quarterback, the kid's a warrior."

Trumpy ran for a 29-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to make it 28-0.

Ivan Tamba rushed for touchdowns of 45 and 46 yards in the final quarter.
