Domestic violence is focus of march

DuPage County's 15th annual Take Back The Night rally and march, raising awareness about crimes of domestic violence and sexual assault in DuPage County, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today near the bandshell in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave., Naperville.

The free event will have music, exhibitors, keynote speaker Gail Dines, a survivor speak-out, a candlelight vigil and march and a raffle to benefit the Take Back the Night initiative.

New Philharmonic to perform today

Mahler and Muspratt will be the final of two season-opening performances for the New Philharmonic orchestra at 8 p.m. today on the Mainstage of McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

The program will include Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" and Mahler's "Fifth Symphony."

Tickets cost $33 for adults, $31 for seniors 60 and older and $23 for children younger than 18.

Adopt a dog during October

Hinsdale Humane Society is celebrating Adopt-A-Dog Month in October.

The society is encouraging the public to send or drop off dog adoption stories with photos at the society, 22 N. Elm St., Hinsdale.

A raffle will be held for those who adopt a dog in October, and several dog-related prizes will be handed out. Donation Paws are available for purchase and will be displayed at the society throughout the month.

Salon to raise cash for pet rescue

Mario Tricoci Salons will be having a benefit for Young at Heart Pet Rescue Nov. 12-14.

Ten percent of any product or service purchased at any Mario Tricoci Salon on those dates will be donated. A special voucher is needed at the time of the appointment.
