Play date set for Saturday in Glendale Hts.

The Glendale Heights Parks and Recreation Department is participating in the Worldwide Day of Play for the first time this year.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, stations will be set up at Camera Park to encourage kids to get physical.

"We need to keep our communities active and get involved with them," Program Supervisor David Gilbert said. "We're hoping to see a good turnout."

The majority of the programs -- including a moon jump, push-up and sit-up contests and dance, fitness and Glendale Heights Sports Hub program demonstrations -- are geared toward youth and their immediate families, organizers said.

"We're very excited to be entering (The Worldwide Day of Play) this year," Gilbert said, "because we feel that keeping our community healthy is one of our primary objectives here at the health department."
