An opportunity to clear out those old electronics
Want to get rid of that old Apple IIe sitting in the basement, but you don't want just to chuck it into a landfill?
This Saturday you can get rid of it in an environmentally responsible manner by bringing it to Motorola, which is teaming up with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County to collect various electronics that should be kept out of landfills.
Bring your electronics to Motorola's Schaumburg facility at 1301 E. Algonquin Road, Visitor Entrance A, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Accepted electronics include: computers and peripherals (PCs, printers, monitors, tape drives, keyboards, etc.); personal home-office equipment and products (telephones, answering machines, typewriters, pagers, mobile phones, etc.); entertainment and visual equipment (televisions, videocassette recorders, stereo equipment, cameras, video game consoles, etc.); and home improvement products such as power tools.
Motorola and the waste agency will not accept air conditioners, dehumidifiers, microwaves or large appliances.
The electronics will be processed by Supply-Chain Services of Lombard, which will destroy computer hard drive data per Department of Defense data security standards.
Only residential waste is accepted; schools and businesses cannot participate.
If you are turning in a cell phone, keep it in the front seat with you, because they will be collected first by screeners walking along the lines of cars.
