Briefs: AARP honors local companies

CHICAGO -- The AARP 2007 list of 50 Best Employers for Workers Over 50 released Tuesday includes six Illinois companies. They were recognized for their policies and practices relating to 50 plus workers. The companies were Argonne National Laboratory of Argonne, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association of Chicago, Centegra Health System of Crystal Lake, John Deere of Moline, Rush-Copley Medical Center of Aurora and Centers for New Horizons of Chicago.

Abbott starts study on renal stent

LIBERTYVILLE TOWNSHIP -- Abbott Tuesday announced enrollment of the first patients in Hercules, a renal stent clinical trial for those who have renal artery stenosis, a condition characterized by fatty plaque buildup in the kidney arteries that can lead to high blood pressure. The first implant was performed by Dr. Joaquin Martinez de Arraras, president of Amarillo Heart Clinical Research Institute, Inc. in Amarillo, Texas.
