Prospect 33, Hersey 0

Sharing duties on the football field is not always embraced or successful.

In the case of Prospect's quarterback position it just might be the key to a winning season. Senior Alex Lazarz and sophomore Miles Osei both took the ball and led the Knights (3-2, 1-0) to a 33-0 Mid-Suburban East win over Hersey (0-5, 0-1) on Thursday at Roland Goins Stadium.

Although neither quarterback threw for a touchdown they each scored twice on the ground behind an offensive line that created gaping holes the entire night.

Osei's first score came with less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter on a keeper to the left from 6 yards. His second touchdown all but ensured victory for Prospect early in the fourth quarter on a 14-yard run up the middle.

Lazarz, a 6-foot-2 senior, showed poise in the pocket but also scored on a 10-yard run in the second and a goal-line sneak late in the fourth.

So was this 50-50 split all a part of Prospect coach Brent Pearlman's game plan?

"We practice them both fairly equally and to be honest with you I still don't know who the quarterback is right now," said Pearlman. "I thought both brought some good things to the table and did a great job. They both deserve to play."

It wasn't all the "Lazarz and Osei Show," though. Junior running back Mason Pack led the Knights with 102 yards on the ground, including a 31-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Going up against a potent Prospect defense proved to be the biggest hurdle for Hersey. With only 61 total yards it was difficult for the Huskies to get anything going as they punted 8 times.

"I loved the way our defense played tonight," said Pearlman. "That is the main positive I take out of this game."

So what does the future hold for Prospect's quarterback position?

"We're not sure. It's all up to coach and we'll both be ready," said Lazarz.

Osei agrees: "Al's a better passer and I run more so I think it could work."
