Culver's restaurants to host day for ataxia foundation

Culver's restaurant will host a fundraiser for National Ataxia Foundation Day from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Ten percent of all sales that day will go toward the National Ataxia Foundation when you mention their name. Local participating Culver's restaurants are at 280 Randall Road in South Elgin and 1800 Wise Road in Schaumburg.

Ataxia affects an estimated 150,000 Americans. It is an often fatal degenerative neurological disorder that can be caused by a recessive or dominant gene.

Ataxia also can be sporadic, with no family history of the disease. Ataxia affects coordination and speech and has no treatments or cure at this time. However, there are gene tests available for various forms of ataxia.
