Chocolate Mania: The Mount Prospect celebration "Chocolate Mania" will kick off with "Crazy for Chocolate" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mount Prospect Public Library, 10 S. Emerson St.
Pastry chef Rose Deneen from the Test Kitchen of Wilton Industries will demonstrate how to make all things chocolate, from chocolate-dipped strawberries, pretzels, and marshmallows, to chocolate truffles and molded chocolates.
Registration is required for the workshop. A $4 nonrefundable sampling fee will be charged.
A fundraising event also takes place at the library, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29.
The day starts with "Breakfast at the Chocolate Works," designed for children and adults alike. Chocoholics can enjoy a continental breakfast featuring chocolate treats -- including muffins and favorite fruits coated by fountains of fresh chocolate, courtesy of volunteers from the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation, the Mount Prospect Historical Society and the Friends of the Library of the Mount Prospect Public Library.
There will also be chocolate-themed entertainment and a special surprise guest, plus chocolate-related door prizes.
Admission is $15 for adults, and $10 for children 12 and under. Only 80 tickets will be sold and registration will close when that limit is reached or no later than 5 p.m. Sept. 27.
The "Great Chocolate Bazaar" -- featuring a chocolate bake sale, chocolate-related items, and a selection of used cookbooks and chocolate-themed books collected by the Friends of the Mount Prospect Public Library -- is open to everyone, running until 3 p.m.
The finale of the day is the "Unbelievable Chocolate Raffle" drawing, for chocolate-related items and baskets full of things close to a chocolate lover's heart.
Baskets and raffle items will be on display in the library lobby through Sept. 29, giving everyone the opportunity to see the goodies and purchase tickets from library foundation members. Winners need not be present to win. Tickets are $1 each, or six for $5.
All proceeds from "Chocolate Mania" will benefit the Mount Prospect Historical Society, which is raising funds to move the Central School House, the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation who raises funds for special library programming, and the Friends of the Library, who sponsor library programs and purchase needed items.
