Thursday Night Book Chat: The group will discuss "Wickett's Remedy" by Myla Goldberg at 7 p.m. today. Books are available for check-out at the Circulation Desk. No registration necessary.

Model railroad exhibit: A model train exhibit boasting an 11-by-24-foot, three-mainline track layout will delight model train enthusiasts and patrons of all ages at the North Central 'O' Gaugers Model Railroad Club Special Run, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Visitors will have the opportunity to control a train using one of the wireless remote controllers. Patrons may bring their own 'O' Gauge trains to run; both conventional and command control engines can be accommodated. This is a family program. No registration necessary.

College Essay-writing Tips: College of Lake County writing instructor Rae Doberstein will give tips and suggestions for writing thoughtful and thought-provoking college essays at 7 p.m. Sept. 27. She'll include writing exercises to direct creativity and let participants know what the admissions counselors would like to see. If participants have admission forms with essay requirements, they should bring them. This program is for high school teens.

Antique Appraisals: Rex Newell from Rex's Antiques will discuss what's being collected and what's not from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 29. The first 40 registrants will receive a verbal appraisal of their favorite antique.

Scarecrow School: Second- through fourth-graders can learn to design and build life-size scarecrows that will hang around the library this fall at 10 a.m. Sept. 29.

Reading Reporters: This second- and third-grade group will explore different series at the library. The first Rendezvous of the school year will be at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1. Join the fun, and soar into the series "Dragon Slayers' Academy." Our first title is "Beware! It's Friday the 13th" by Kate McMullan. Books are available at the circulation desk.

Black Belts, Tae Kwon Do: Members from the Yong Tae Kwon Do center in Grayslake will demonstrate their skills at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 6. For children ages 4 and up; parents are welcome.

Dinosaurs of the Jurassic Age: Don Pfister works with Dinosaur Safaris at a paleontological dig site in the badlands of Wyoming. At 7 p.m. Oct. 11, he'll talk about the American Jurassic period and how extinction may have happened. He'll bring some dinosaur bones and discuss his experiences unearthing several major discoveries, including Stegosaurus Sarah. For more information, visit www.paleogallery.com/aboutus.htm.

Anime Club: The Anime Club will watch episodes of "Bleach," a funny and suspenseful action-adventure series from Japan, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 12, with food and prizes. Open to students in eighth grade and up. No registration necessary.

Yoga for Two: Ages 2 to 5 and an adult can discover the world of yoga at 10 a.m. Oct. 12.

Crafty Kids: Students in third grade and up can join in to make a craft at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 13.
