Briefs: Hubbs earns teacher award
A St. Charles teacher has been named the Illinois Art Education Association's 2007 Elementary Art Teacher of the Year. Rebecca Hubbs of Munhall Elementary School will be presented with the award at a conference Oct. 26 in Chicago. Hubbs was selected for the honor because of her "outstanding commitment to visual art education in her district, as well as her wider contributions in the community," according to the association.
Batavia bridge update
The Wilson Street bridge closures scheduled today through Sunday have been canceled as the work requiring closure of the bridge was nearly complete. No additional closures are scheduled at this time. The north half is being demolished now that the south half of the new bridge is complete. The project is expected to be finished by Dec. 15.

Delnor Wellness walk
Delnor-Community Hospital will have its seventh annual Walk for Women's Wellness on Sunday beginning at Gunnar Anderson Park, Geneva. All proceeds from the 5-mile walk benefit women through educational programming, preventive screenings and special events. The walk kicks off at 8:30 a.m. from the park, and follows the bike trail. All who register early will receive a T-shirt. Those who register the day of the walk will receive T-shirts while supplies last. Free movie night
St. Charles East High School will have a movie night for parents and students Wednesday at Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road. The free event is in conjunction with homecoming week and will include student-made videos from each class. It starts at 7 p.m. Call (630) 485-0444.
Geneva class reunion
The Geneva High School Class of 1982 will celebrate its 25-year reunion Sept. 29 at Old Towne Pub, 201 W. State St., Geneva, second floor, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Appetizers and a cash bar will be offered. Classmates from the GHS classes of 1981 and 1983 are welcome, as well as any teachers who worked during that time.
