Ex-mayor in primary
Former Grayslake mayor Pat Carey has announced she's running in the Feb. 5 Democratic primary for a seat on the Lake County board. Carey is seeking an open seat in the county board's District 11, which serves the Grayslake area. Carey was Grayslake's mayor from 1993 to 2001. She did not seek re-election in 2001, and the mayor's seat has been filled since then by Timothy Perry. Carey has support from Perry and Lake County Democratic Party boss Terry Link, a state senator from Waukegan. Carey said she would bring 13 years of government experience and 20 years of business expertise to the Lake County board. Former Grayslake trustee Terese Douglass is the District 11 county board representative. Douglass took over last February for Sandy Cole, who became a state representative.
Tollway bridge work
One southbound lane on the Tri-State Tollway between Willow Road and Sanders Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday. Traffic on Willow Road is reduced to one lane in each direction on the newly rebuilt north half of the bridge over the tollway. Work has begun to rebuild the south side, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The bridge work is needed to accommodate four lanes in each direction on the Tri-State. The overall project includes widening a 25-mile stretch between Dempster Avenue and Route 173 to four lanes in each direction.

Longtime employee resigns
Bob Carpenter, chairman of Island Lake's lake management committee, has resigned after 11 years of service at the village. Saying it was "time to wind down" his responsibilities, Carpenter presented his resignation in an emotional speech before the village board. "The lake management committee has had many successes," Carpenter said. Mayor Tom Hyde said the village appreciated Carpenter's devotion to the committee and the village. "We thank you for all your efforts and team efforts to bring our community together," Hyde said. "I'd like to just personally thank you very much."
