Police seek armed robber

Villa Park police investigating a weekend armed robbery are asking for help. Around 10 p.m. Friday, police said, a Villa Park man was accosted by an unknown male before the suspect entered the man's home in the 900 block of South Euclid Avenue. The unknown male was dressed in dark clothes, roughly 6 feet tall, weighed 150 to 170 pounds, and showed the man what may have been a handgun and demanded the victim's wallet. After getting the wallet, authorities said the suspect ran from the scene. Police are asking that anyone with information contact them at (630) 834-7447.

Dist. 4 to destroy records:

Addison School District 4 will destroy special education records from the 2001-02 school year of students who graduated, transferred or were dismissed from special services. Special education records may include reports of psychological and social work evaluations, multidisciplinary planning conferences, annual reviews, copies of individualized education programs and other information. If a parent or student wants those records, they should call the pupil personnel office before Oct. 5 at (630) 458-2462. Copies of the rules and regulations that govern student records are available for inspection at each school and the district office.

Therapy dogs sought

Today's the registration deadline for dog owners interested in volunteering for the animal-assisted therapy program at Naperville's Edward Hospital. Would-be participants can register at www.edward.org or fax applications to (630) 305-8690. Dogs will be tested to ensure they have the proper temperament on Sept. 29 and handlers and their canines must attend training from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 7, Oct. 13 and 14. The fee is $30 for temperament testing and $125 for training. For details, call (630) 527-7335.

Campfire tales on tap

Storyteller, broadcaster, teacher and writer Matthew Hermes will tell tales around the campfire from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday in Naperville Park District's Seager Park, 1163 Plank Road. The program is for ages 4 and older and the cost is $5 for Naperville Park District residents and $10 for others. Beverages and marshmallows will be provided. For details, call (630) 848-5000.

Teens arraigned in murder:

Two 15-year-old Addison teens pleaded innocent Monday to first-degree murder charges. Jhony Aragon and Matthew C. Cruz are being tried as adults for the Aug. 21 fatal shooting of 14-year-old Francisco J. Baiza, whom they accused of being in a rival gang. Baiza would have celebrated his 15th birthday Sunday. Aragon and Cruz, both of whom are being held in the county's youth home, are back in court next month.
