U.S. welcomes legal immigrants

It's about time that illegal immigrant Elvira Arellano, who hid in a Chicago church for a year, finally got arrested and deported.

She is a criminal who ignored our laws and used the Social Security number of one of our citizens. Americans deserve protection from people like her. Identity theft is serious and one of the fastest-growing crimes in our country.

Ninety-one percent of people on Fox News TV poll agreed it was correct to arrest her.

Our immigrant laws are indeed broken -- we need to change them so children born to an illegal are not automatic citizens. American citizenship should be earned. Elvira wasn't a contributor to America; she wants everything for free for her own selfish causes. She speaks poor English. The nerve of her to criticize our government.

American citizens don't want to see these foreign flags being waved in our country, demands being made on us, the taxpayers, and hear all these sob stories about "breaking up families." Elvira came here illegally.

Our country is deep in debt, and we cannot continue to supply illegal immigrants with free medical care, education, etc. We need to take care of our own first. We cannot solve the world's problems!

We welcome legal immigrants all the time! Doesn't matter which country you come from. Just follow our laws. My mother was an immigrant who came here from Switzerland. She spoke the Swiss dialect, French and German and then learned English. She did it legally!

Be careful what you wish for

I was flabbergasted at the hubris and insensitivity shown by Penny Novy in the Sept. 6 Fence Post ("Let's try shopping in logical shifts").

Imagine, relegating the elderly and housewives (spoken as though this is a bad thing to be) to a specific shift so as not to inconvenience Novy. This idea sounds familiar, but I just can't remember which Axis power employed it.

Did it ever occur to Novy that these folk might not enjoy shopping with her? Self-important people usually find a way to express their disgust with a smirk, sneer or harumph and don't care who sees/hears it. Maybe the "housewife" had actually just worked a backbreaking eight hours, picked up the kids from day care and stopped to buy the dinner she would then have to go home and prepare.

Following this to its logical conclusion, is there any guarantee that the vain, the self-centered and the gerontophobes won't end up with the midnight-to-3 a.m. shopping shift? Careful what you wish for, you might get it.

Democrats, too, have had scandals

A recent letter by Stephen P. Beisiegel claims that people like Larry Craig (senator from Idaho), Mark Foley (former congressman from Florida) and Jim West (former Spokane mayor), all Republicans involved in scandals, wouldn't have succeeded in the Democratic Party because the Democratic Party has members who think.

Well, I think Beisiegel should do some research on Democrats Mel Reynolds, Gus Savage, Barney Frank, Gerry Studds and James McGreevy, and he'll find that they were all involved in similar scandals. What were Democrats thinking when they voted for them?

Scandalous behavior is not restricted to one political party. It just gets more press when a Republican is involved.

Do not be fooled by bogus report

Please do not be fooled deluded or misled by this bogus, obviously manipulated report. Stand up for our soldiers and our country and please, please, please stand up against this madman of a president. Get him out!

The Republican bully tactics must end now, and this will happen only if you speak out and not be so pseudo polite. Expose, expose, expose their filthy twisted lies. I am appalled that you let it even get to this point.

It is not only affecting the USA; it is affecting or infecting the world at large. Please save our civilization.
