Burlington Central girls win Eddington Invite
The Burlington Central girls cross country team had a banner day Saturday at Kaneland's Larry Eddington Invtiational.
With a total of 23 points, the Rockets won the girls Class AA race at the annual event. The host Knights took second place with 57 points and Timothy Christian finished third overall with 86 total points.
Markelle Turk set the pace for Burlington Central, leading the Rockets with a seventh-place finish in a time of 19:31. Maggie Gannon finished 12th with a time of 19:54 and Katie Puccio (20th) was also among the Top-20 at 20:21.
As a team, Geneva led the Class AAA team standings with 27 points followed by Benet (66), Dundee-Crown (90) and Cary-Grove (134).
C-G's Madeline Aufmann paced the Trojans with a fourth-place finish (19:21) while teammate Hillary Young came in 14th in a time of 20:01. Dundee-Crown's Kelsey Sieler came in seconds behind Aufmann at 19:24 to lead the Chargers. Claira Himmel filled the No. 10 slot with a time of 19:49 for D-C.
Boys: With 23 points, Sycamore won the Class AA division of Kaneland's Larry Eddington Invitational. Burlington Central finished second as a team with 105 points followed by Westmont (106).
The Rockets had a solid showing from team leader Ryan Phebus, who finished 20th with a time of 16:50.50. Teammate Kevin Meyer (17:05.72) took 34th.
Class AAA action was taken by Batavia with 63 points. Cary-Grove finished second overall with 73 team points followed by Geneva (77) and Dundee-Crown (90).
Cary-Grove's Phillip Fairleigh ran a time of 15:51.66 which was more than enough to earn a second place overall finish, while Mike McNamara came in 13th with a time of 16:31.84 for the Trojans.
Connor Kustief paced Dundee-Crown taking fourth place overall with a time of 16:00.56. Teammate Anthony Manfrin (16:18,42) finished ninth overall.
