Wauconda 41, Antioch 10

Nearly 40 carries later, Brad Wisniewski still couldn't get off the football field because he was answering seemingly nearly as many questions about his undefeated team and another of his untiring efforts.

As Antioch defenders did, reporters chased Wauconda's running back all over the field.

"Come on, Brad!" Wauconda coach Glen Kozlowski pleaded more than once to his accommodating senior, whose teammates were already on the bus.

Wisniewski surely rested on the way home after his 36-carry, 240-yard-rushing effort led Wauconda to a 41-20 road victory Friday night in a North Suburban Prairie Division game.

Junior running back Cameron White rushed for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 carries for Antioch (2-2, 0-2), which trailed 20-0 at halftime before playing the visitors even in the second half.

At 4-0, including 2-0 in the division, Wauconda has matched last season's win total. The Bulldogs host Grant in a first-place showdown next Friday night.

"We work together as a team," said Wauconda two-way lineman Bret Collier, who scored a pivotal touchdown on defense. "We're just one big team this year."

While Wisniewski is the focal point of Wauconda's offense for the second year in a row, the workhorse back is quick to point out the Bulldogs have other weapons this season.

For example, while Wisniewski scored 3 TDs for the second straight game, other Bulldogs stepped up. Quarterback Garrett Dorsey fired a 16-yard scoring strike to tight end Davis Mills, and fullback Jamey Carey busted off a 48-yard touchdown run to put the game away.

"We run so much in practice," said Wisniewski, who ran behind Collier, Mills, Charlie Balfour, Tom Hopfauf, Brandon Olejniczak and Jake Kovac.

"That opens the pass game so much. In previous years we've had to keep running, running, running. Now we have so many other options."

Wisniewski scored from 20 yards out on Wauconda's opening possession, but Antioch responded by marching from its own 29 to the Wauconda 19. Bulldogs linebacker Jason Holst then stripped the ball from Sequoits quarterback Matt Romani. Collier picked up the fumble and raced 73 yards the other way for six points.

"It was amazing," Collier said. "I just picked it up and ran my butt off. It was the best feeling in the world."

"Those are our two speedsters on defense," Kozlowski said of Collier and Holst.

White helped keep Antioch close in the second half. He sped 74 yards for a touchdown, completed an option pass to set up the Sequoits' second score (a 1-yard run by QB Ken Karagiorgas), and added a 5-yard TD run.

"He's the real deal," Kozlowski said. "It's funny because (he and Wisniewski) have such contrasting styles. Brad's a power back. This kid is scoot, shake and take off. He's impressive."

Wauconda, too.
