McHenry East High School re-opened today
McHenry East High School re-opened for classes today after district officials said they were satisfied their roof concerns had been alleviated.
"All the inspections and repairs were completed (Thursday)," McHenry Community High School District 156 Superintendent Teresa Lane said.
Lane said a ceiling connection broke free and hit ceiling tiles Wednesday, prompting officials to dismiss students at about 12:30 p.m.
"In order to secure the safety and security of students, we needed to take this precaution," Lane said.
Students missed a total of five school hours, she said, as Thursday had been scheduled for a half-day.
Lane said all rooms were inspected Thursday and additional supports were installed where needed.
"It's always better to err on the side of caution," she said.
