It's official: Village clerk retires in Glendale Hts.

After serving two decades as Glendale Heights' village clerk, JoAnn Borysiewicz is officially retired.

Borysiewicz dramatically scaled back her duties as clerk in November 2005. This month, she formally stepped down from the elected position to move with her husband to Lanark, Ill.

"We bought property out here 18 years ago," Borysiewicz said Thursday. "Now that we're both retired, we decided to build a house and move out here."

Even though the 63-year-old will be relaxing in her new private community, she'll miss everyone she worked with.

She also will miss Glendale Heights, where she lived for 47 years.

"I hated leaving the job because I enjoyed my time at the village," Borysiewicz said. "The friends I've made, the mayors and trustees I've worked with -- I just enjoyed working with everybody."

Village Administrator Donna Becerra and Roger Mabbitt, the assistant village administrator, will act as alternating deputy clerks. They will fulfill the job duties until a new clerk is appointed by the village board.

"(JoAnn's) departure leaves 20 years worth of experience that is hard to duplicate because she's picked it all up over time," Mabbitt said. "It's going to be hard to fill her shoes."

Mayor Linda Jackson said that since Borysiewicz became the village clerk, there have been more than 460 village board meetings. During those meetings, 1,707 ordinances and 793 resolutions were passed.

"The many years of experience, knowledge and dedication that (JoAnn) has provided to the village of Glendale Heights is going to be sorely missed," Jackson said.

Borysiewicz was awarded the Distinguished Clerk Award from the Municipal Clerks of DuPage County in 1996.
