Briefs: Underwriters gets firefighter grant
NORTHBROOK -- The Department of Homeland Security recently awarded Underwriters Laboratories a $991,900 fire safety grant. The Northbrook-based firm will help investigate the safety of engineered lumber and extinguishing agents.
'Dirty bomb' firm launches Web site
LAKE ZURICH -- Vidiation has launched an informational Web site, vidiation.com, showing how its V-RADS system detects levels of radiation that could be used in terrorist 'dirty bomb' attacks, the Lake Zurich firm said.
Apple Store to open at Deer Park center
DEER PARK -- The Apple Store Deer Park grand opening begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Deer Park Town Center. The retail store chain for Apple Inc. products also features training and other services. Apple has seven area stores.
