Briggs didn't say why he left scene
Lance Briggs refused to tell police why he fled after crashing his Lamborghini on Aug. 27, according to a published report.
Briggs, the Bears' Pro Bowl linebacker, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and cited for both failure to give immediate notice of an accident and improper lane usage after crashing his Lamborghini Murcielago and abandoning it alongside an expressway.
Briggs, who was in the car alone, told Illinois State Police in an interview that he lost control of his $350,000 car as he switched from a left to right lane to pass another vehicle, according to a story posted Monday on the Chicago Tribune's Web site.
The Tribune cited documents that the newspaper obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.
State police have said they do not know if alcohol was a factor in the accident, in part because they did not track down Briggs until nearly 12 hours after the accident.
Garay moved up: Bears defensive tackle Antonio Garay on Tuesday was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad to help fill the void left by Sunday's season-ending knee injury to starting nose tackle Dusty Dvoracek.
Garay, a three-year veteran, played in four games as a backup last season, including three late in the season after defensive tackle Tommie Harris suffered a season-ending torn hamstring.
The Bears also signed cornerback Adebola Jimoh to the 53-man roster, replacing safety Mike Brown, who, like Dvoracek suffered a season-ending ruptured ACL in his left knee vs. the Chargers and was placed on injured reserve. Jimoh had 65 special-teams tackles and 28 defensive stops in 63 regular-season games over four seasons with the Washington Redskins.
To take Garay's spot on the practice squad, the Bears signed defensive tackle Babatunde Oshinowo, a Naperville native who attended Neuqua Valley High School. He was drafted in the sixth round last year by the Cleveland Browns and appeared in one game, making 2 tackles, while spending time between the active roster and practice squad.
