Funeral set for soldier with local ties

A soldier with suburban ties who was killed in Iraq Sept. 5 will be laid to rest this week.

Visitation for Cpl. Keith A. Nurnberg, 26, of Genoa City, Wis., is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Spring Grove Funeral Chapel, 8103 Wilmot Road.

Prayers will be said at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church, 10519 N. Main St., Richmond.

Interment will be at Bloomfield Township Cemetery in Pell Lake, Wis.

A 1999 McHenry West High School graduate, Nurnberg was on his second tour of duty in Iraq. He died after his unit was attacked during a combat operation in Baghdad.

He was awarded the rank of corporal posthumously.

Nurnberg's survivors include: his wife, Tonya; his parents, Barbara and Alan Nurnberg of McHenry; a grandmother; and three sisters.

Tonya Nurnberg is expecting the couple's first child in November.

Instead of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Tonya Nurnberg benefit account at First Midwest Bank, 3510 W. Elm St., McHenry, IL, 60050.
