Historical society open for Sept. 11, 2001, recollections
The McHenry County Historical Society Museum at 6422 Main Street in Union will open free to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The historical society hopes that visitors will take a few moments while visiting to sit and read the local recollections from Sept. 11, 2001, written by area residents.
Each year since 2001 the historical society has provided the public with an opportunity to add their own recollections on information sheets.
It is from those personal accounts that future historian and family members will turn to in interpreting that horrific event. Even after six years the majority of us remember numerous details of that September morning.
The historical society will continue to collect and preserve these very personal accounts.
