Football league to host food drive
Palatine Amateur Football Association will be holding a food drive to benefit the Palatine Township Food Pantry. The association's "Get a Pound -- Give a Pound Food Drive" will be held on Saturday.
There will be collection bins at all Palatine football fields which include Ost Field, Community Park and Palatine High School. The association is asking the community to support those less fortunate by donating non-perishable food and toiletries.
Senior lunches held in Barrington
The Barrington Area Council on Aging will again be hosting Monday Senior Lunch and Activity Programs throughout September. Bingo begins at 10:30 a.m., with lunch served at noon at the Barrington Park District, 235 Lions Drive. Registration is required.
On Monday, the program will be held at the Jewel Tea Pavilion in Barrington's new Citizens Park, 511 Lake Zurich Road. Entertainment will be provided by Second Wind, featuring Joyce Palmquist and Doug Saylor.
On Sept. 17, Cuba Township representatives will present information on this year's property tax reassessment, as well as possible exemptions that seniors may be eligible for.
The final lunch will be held Sept. 24. Caryl Derenfeld of Learned Conversations will present "Apple Harvest," which will describe the health benefits of apples and the legend of Johnny Appleseed.
