Student chosen for leadership forum

People to People International, Student Ambassador programs, selected Anushka Vazirani, daughter of Ravi and Carol Vazirani of Palatine, to participate in its People to People World Leadership Forum this month in Washington, D.C.

Vazirani, who was nominated based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential, will study leadership and visit Capitol Hill, the Smithsonian Institutions Colonial Williamsburg and the National Museum of American History.

• Rolling Meadows resident Rebecca Leung, a Rolling Meadows High School senior; Arlington Heights resident Daniel Bulmash and Buffalo Grove resident Paige Malec, both seniors at Buffalo Grove High School; and Arlington Heights resident Andrew Schmitz, a senior at John Hersey High School, were among the 46 Illinois students who earned a perfect composite score of 36 on their ACT test this spring.

Approximately 136,000 students took the ACT, which tests students in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student's composite score is the average of the four tests scores. As comparison, the average composite score for the national high school graduation class of 2006 was 21.1.

• Chicago-based BrightStar Healthcare, a full-service healthcare staffing agency, presented Chuck Bailey of Schaumburg with its Rising Star Award. Bailey, who is the owner/operator of BrightStar of Schaumburg, received the honor at the company's annual franchisee convention.

The Rising Star Award recognizes owners who have demonstrated outstanding growth and are poised for future success based on sales activity, attitude and a commitment to the values and persistence necessary to grow a successful business.

• Brian Hilderbrand of Arlington Heights, son of Paul Hilderbrand and Maryellen Beach, spent two weeks this summer studying percussion and steelpan at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Door County, Wis.

Hilderbrand, who studies percussion privately with Joe Sonnefeldt, was one of 37 young musicians selected from throughout the country to attend the percussion and steelpan session at the prestigious school.

• Anish Manrai, junior tennis coordinator at Midtown Athletic Club, Palatine, received a Level One Certificate of Achievement from the United States Professional Tennis Association for earning credits in the association's Career Development program over a one-year period.

Manrai joined Midtown Athletic Club in 2003, and is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association.
