Schaumburg Barn notes

Meet volunteers: The Schaumburg Barn wishes to spotlight two of its volunteers.

Volunteering three days a week, Vivian Komari is one of those tireless volunteers whose efforts make the Barn a success.

No matter how nutritious the food is, if trays are not clean, nutritional value is irrelevant. Even though it's not easy and requires dedication, Komari accepts the challenge.

Komari helps disabled seniors by bringing their trays and cutting their food portions. At bingo, she helps them to repeat their numbers.

Always smiling and kind to her peers, Komari treats fellow seniors with a quiet dignity rooted in service and dedication.

Robert Henry said, "It takes great wit and interest and energy to be happy. The pursuit of happiness is a great activity. One must be open and alive. It is the greatest feat man has to accomplish." Edward Grochowski comes from this school of thought.

Grochowski is resourceful, and always looking to fill the community's needs. The Barn is home to many seniors who are in need of armchairs, some who need clothing, and some who need transportation.

Grochowski brings stuffed animals for the nursing home seniors who come to the Barn. He also arranges decoration by bringing silk flowers.

Grochowski offers service with cheer, making the Barn's community brighter each day.
