Paramedics rescue 2 from car in pond

Though their conditions were unknown late Thursday night, two people were pulled out of a vehicle nearly fully submerged in a Carol Stream detention pond in the late afternoon.

Paramedics received the call for a water rescue at 520 S. Schmale Road in Carol Stream at 5:13 p.m.

Battalion Chief Robert Tardio said the water was nearly to the top of the vehicle's interior when he and his paramedics arrived.

The pond is located just north of a shopping center and on the center's property, Tardio said.

Paramedics recorded neither the age nor gender of the victims before transporting them to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Tardio said.

Carol Stream police were unable to provide any information about the incident Thursday night.

Hospital officials also were unable to report the condition of the two victims as neither police nor paramedics could provide their names.
