Kraft adds Starbucks for Tassimo systems
Kraft Foods, the world's second-biggest food maker, will offer four varieties of coffee from Starbucks for its Tassimo home-brewing systems.
The selection will be available in December in single-cup Tassimo capsules in the U.S. and Canada, Kraft said Tuesday in a statement.
More than 2 million Tassimo systems have been sold since the hot-beverage unit was introduced in 2004. It allows users to make single cups of coffee and tea with the capsules.
Bosch Household Appliances will begin making the Tassimo machines in 2008, Kraft said, taking over from Procter & Gamble Co.'s Braun division. Since Kraft and Procter & Gamble compete for coffee consumers, the companies will end their contract on June 30. P&G gained Braun with its 2005 purchase of Gillette Co.
Shares of Kraft, based in Northfield, rose 9 cents to $32.15 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. Starbucks, the world's biggest coffee-shop chain, climbed 17 cents to $27 .72 in Nasdaq Stock Market trading.
