Briefs: Technology firms receive grant funds

CHICAGO -- Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich announced $190,000 in Opportunity Returns grants to four area technology-based firms to help these companies advance commercialization efforts and grow their businesses. American BioOptics in Evanston, MicroLink Devices in Niles, QuesTek Innovations in Evanston and Advanced Diamond Technologies in Romeoville all received funding through the federally-administered Small Business Innovation and Research program.

Discover gift cards sold at area malls

RIVERWOODS -- Discover Financial Services announced the availability of Discover gift cards at various General Growth Properties mall locations nationwide, including locally at Northbrook Court, Oakbrook Center and Water Tower Place. The agreement marks the first time Discover gift cards are available in retail locations and able to be purchased by non-Discover card members. This partnership is part of Discover's mall sponsorship that conducts promotions throughout the year at select properties.
