Salinas leads Bartlett to 4th

Junior Sam Salinas took seventh place in a time of 19:03 Saturday as Bartlett finished in fourth place at the St. Charles East girls cross country invitational at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve.

"I was looking forward to this meet -- this is one of my favorite places," said Salinas. "I just felt awesome today."

Fueled by five top-15 performances, defending meet champion York cruised to a 47-85 team triumph over second-place Barrington. Geneva (136), Bartlett (165) and St. Charles North (166) rounded out the top five in the team standings.

St. Charles East's Lizzy Hynes claimed individual honors, covering the 3.0-mile course in a time of 18:13.5.

Wheaton North won the boys race, 41-63 over Geneva. The Falcons' Collin Christensen was the individual winner in a time of 15:14.

Burlington Central wins Harlem Invitational: The Burlington Central boys and girls cross country teams had a combined score of 268.17 to win the 11-team Harlem Invitational, etching out Belvidere North (268.22) at Rock Cut State Park. The top 8 boys times and top 6 girls times are combined for the total team tally.

Leading the boys side for the Rockets were Ryan Phebus (17:07), Kevin Meyer (17:19), Ryan Kohls (18:02), Nic Laggett (18:27), John Flannery (18:30), Jake Moose (19:12), Sam Moose (19:26) and Joe Russo (19:30).

The girls were led by Maggie Gannon (19:19), Markelle Turk (19:25), Katie Puccio (20:10), Emily Zipoy (20:11), Lili Castillo (20:17) and Keonora Smith (20:21).

South Elgin girls at Plainfield Central: With 219 points, South Elgin finished in the middle of the pack amongst 16 teams competing at the Plainfield Central Invitational.

Taking eighth place, the Storm was led by Denisse Ascencio, who finished 17th overall with a time of 20:36. Danielle Davilla filled the No. 39 slot at 22:24.

"All of our girls improved their times," said Storm coach Jorie Bartholomew. "New freshmen Katie Goplerud, Shelby Kenny and Jessica DeSimon each gave great efforts for their first time on the varsity team."
