Wauconda 56, Marengo 7

There's nothing wrong with being hungry.

Wauconda senior and two-way player Davis Mills was champing at the bit while scooping up a ball on a fumble recovery for a touchdown in the second half on Friday night.

It was part of a career night for Mills, junior quarterback Garrett Dorsey and senior running back Brad Wisniewski as the Bulldogs won their second straight, downing Marengo 56-7 in a nonconference game at Wauconda.

Fortunately for him, Mills n now gets to enjoy a breakfast with the rest of the defense. The coaching staff offered to buy if the defense got a score.

"I just ran down the field thinking, 'breakfast, breakfast, breakfast,' " said Mills, during his 44-yard scamper. "Now I get a big breakfast."

Mills probably deserves lunch and dinner, too. He caught a personal-best 4 passes for 156 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown reception.

"You've got to keep your eye on the ball and the hands in a triangle," Millls said. "If you move your head, you won't catch it."

Dorsey put forth a picture-perfect night throwing the football. He tossed 5 consecutive passes for 181 yards, all in the first half.

"It felt real good and I thought the lineman were doing well," Dorsey said. "Everything was working and the offense was clicking."

Wisniewski added 3 more touchdowns, giving him 5 in two weeks, and finished with 96 yards on 15 carries.

"The offensive line has done so much," Wisniewski said. "After a big play, I tell them in the huddle what a great job they're doing. I always encourage them, because without them I'm nothing."

For the second straight week, Wauconda had a balanced attack, with 177 yards on the ground and 181 in the air for 358 yards of total offense.

The Bulldogs held Marengo (0-2) to 69 total yards.

"Throwing the ball down the field takes a lot of pressure off us," said Wauconda coach Glen Kozlowski of the new-look Bulldogs offense. "We've got a quarterback (Dorsey) that can boot out and move on his feet. He finally was perfect.

"David Mills, I've never seen a performance like that out of one kid."

Up next for Wauconda is a visit to North Chicago next Friday to open up North Suburban Prairie Division play.
