Glenbard South 31, Fenton 12

Glenbard South football coach Dan Starkey and his squad enjoyed something Friday that hadn't happened in his first three seasons at the helm.

The Raiders have started the season at 2-0.

A week after beating cross-town rival Glenbard West, the Raiders suffered no emotional letdown in beating Fenton 31-12 in Bensenville.

"We were very confident coming into the game. We thought we could do a lot of things," said Raiders quarterback Kevin Marshall. "We just stayed confident."

Marshall went 11 of 16 in passing with scoring strikes of 27 and 23 yards to Mike Oratowski and Wally Wiedner, and the junior ran for 71 yards as well.

"Mike Oratowski and Kevin Marshall did some great things, along with Will Hill and Wally Wiedner," Starkey said. "Unfortunately, we don't know what (Nick) Summers' status is going to be for next week."

Summers had 6 carries for 72 yards in the second quarter before injuring his knee and leaving the game. Fenton also suffered a huge loss when team leader Tashawn Webber suffered a fracture of his lower leg in the first quarter.

"We just got the news that he's out for the season. It's a huge loss," said Fenton captain Brandon Moriarty. "The captains will have to step up, and get us all to play our hardest."

Fenton (1-1) trailed 17-0 in the second quarter when the Bison's Edgar Chaidez took a kickoff 57 yards into Raiders territory, and then caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Ricky Prignano two plays later.

The Raiders' offense continued to control play after halftime, however, and Glenbard South went up 23-6 on Marshall's pass to Wiedner in the end zone. It was 31-6 before Prignano ran a fourth-quarter touchdown in from 8 yards out for the night's final score.

Glenbard South earned a 366-148 edge in total offensive yardage on the night, playing solidly on both sides of the ball.

"Defensively, we had a lot of guys play well," Starkey said. "Our offensive line gave (Marshall) a lot of time tonight. We're young up there, with three juniors and a couple first-year starters as seniors, so they did another pretty good job tonight."

Fenton took another step forward in the education of its skill position players and got a solid game from sophomore Danny Pingel filling in for Webber.

"Our young skill kids are starting to learn, and grasp some of the concepts that we want to do," Farrell said. "They're learning how to make plays, but they have to limit the mistakes that they make.

"We had too many mistakes that stopped some drives for us."
