Naperville police Taser suspect

A Naperville man was shocked with a Taser gun Friday, following a scuffle with police that sent one officer to the hospital, authorities said.

About 2 a.m. Friday, a Naperville officer stopped Armando Torres, 21, of 1521 Auburn Ave., for minor traffic violations on the 1700 block of South Washington Street.

The vehicle, a black 2004 Lincoln LS, stopped at a Shell gas station at Redstart Road and Washington Street, officials said, and Torres ran off on foot.

The officer, whose name was not released, chased after him, radioing for assistance.

Torres returned to the car and got in, closely followed by the officer. A struggle ensued, authorities said.

Torres threw the officer to the ground and drove away, hitting a parked car in the process, officials said.

Another police officer arriving at the gas station tried to stop the car.

Torres headed east on Bailey Road, speeding and ignoring traffic lights and stop signs, police said. He drove off the road near Clemson Court, hit a tree and stopped.

Police said they struggled with Torres again before using a Taser on him. Torres was then taken into custody.

The officer thrown to the ground was treated for minor injuries at Edward Hospital in Naperville and released.

Torres was treated for minor injuries from hitting the tree and released to police.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated resisting of an officer and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, as well as several traffic citations.

He was moved to the DuPage County jail Friday night, police said.
