Mount Prospect trustee impressed with staff

Mount Prospect Trustee Tim Corcoran has taken some flak for a statement in Wednesday's paper in which he appears to suggest the village's storm damage was minor.

Corcoran, who saw devastation from Hurricane Katrina firsthand, was quoted as saying, "This was a walk in the park compared to (New Orleans). Half of their city is still unoccupied. Homes are still dark."

However, Corcoran's quote was inadvertently cut, which changed the meaning. He praised the work of the village staff, saying he was impressed by its professionalism and enthusiasm in responding to the challenge.

"I feel very safe living here," he went on. "I can't say if I would feel the same way in another community. And I think the difference is the staff we have."

"It was amazing. From the floodwall on River Road to the emergency operations center … I can't tell you how impressed and how pleased I was."
