Preschool starts Labor Day week

The Salt Creek Park District offers the following 2007-2008 preschool programs for 2007-2008 at Rose Park, 530 S. Williams Ave., Palatine. School begins Labor Day week.

• 3-year-old program -- 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday

• 4-year-old program -- 12:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 12:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 12:30 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday

Sample continued learning topics

The Institute for Continued Learning at Roosevelt University's Schaumburg campus will hold the complimentary "Taste of ICL" at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Alumni Hall, 1400 N. Roosevelt Blvd. Both new and returning members may register for the nine-week fall term, beginning Sept. 17.

Featured will be previews of study group topics "Winston Churchill," "Meeting Minorities" and "Comedy In Music." Other activities, such as the winter lecture series, field trips, social gatherings and discussion groups, will be discussed by Institute for Continued Learning president Bob Allen. A breakfast snack will also be served.

Job retreat comes to Barrington Hills

The Career Transitions Center of Chicago, along with the Barrington Career Center, will host a retreat from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. Thursday for those in between jobs. "Finding Work Without Losing Heart" will be held at the Bellarmine Hall, 175 W. County Line Road, Barrington Hills.

Attendees will explore the stages of the transition process and how they affect personal development. Admission is partially subsidized for all, and assessed on a sliding scale from $15 to $95, depending on what participants can afford.

Fair trade items for sale at Holy Family

Holy Family Parish, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, supports small farmer cooperatives around the world by selling Equal Exchange fair trade coffee, tea and chocolate through its book and gift shop. The store is open daily. For more information, call (847) 907-3443.
