Fun Sunset fest band lineup makes kissing summer goodbye a little easier

If you don't have any Labor Day weekend plans yet, there's plenty to do in Lake in the Hills, especially if you "want to rock 'n' roll all night, and party every day" of the festival.

The village's three-day festival extravaganza, aptly named Summer Sunset Fest, runs today through Sunday.

Some of the highlights include the Sunset 5K, bands on the main stage, food, carnival rides, a Battle of the Bands and skateboard contests, an arts and crafts show and Lake in the Hills' version of "American Idol."

If that laundry list of activity doesn't get you into the gates -- entry is free -- then how about the concert schedule, starting with the Sofa Kings and Infinity on Friday night?

For those who yearn for music of the 1950s, '60s and '70s, the Sofa Kings are your band. They're on from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

But for the ultimate tribute band, check out Infinity. They are sure to bust out some mean chops and heavy licks from bands like Bon Jovi, Boston, REO Speedwagon and more from 9 to 10:30 p.m.

Saturday's lineup is one for the party animal in you. Modern Day Romeos, from the Northwest suburbs, are known for their party music.

Their selections range from Ram Jam's "Black Betty" to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Hey, they might even play Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl." You can catch them from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Once the sun sets on Saturday, things should cool down just in time for Dot Dot Dot to take the stage from 9 to 10:30 p.m. The band's shows are high-energy with lots of audience participation. Their set list includes bands such as Eddie Money and the Killers.

Say hi to my friend Rose on the guitar. She plays a crazy ax. Oh, and she does a striking cover of Rihanna's "Umbrella."

The Prince of Rock 'n' Roll, Rick Saucedo, closes the festival and concludes the lineup of live music from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The talented Elvis impersonator has performed all over the world, including at the Cabaret in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the Alhambra Theater in Aruba.

He has recorded 10 albums and starred in the Broadway play, "The Legend Lives On," in 1978.

So, if you're bored this weekend, it's not my fault.
