Palatine still cleaning up after storm

The storms last week were a burden for everyone, but the Palatine Public Works department experienced something it hasn't in at least 21 years -- their phones went down.

In turn, this made it a little frustrating for residents trying to call in and report storm damage and flooding.

But as you could see over the next few days, crews were out all over the village helping to clean up the mess.

Director Andy Radetski said 4 inches of rain were recorded. The intensity of water was the culprit for most problems.

"Streets flooded that normally would not flood. People had water in their basement that never had water in their basement before," he said.

Residents should continue leaving any brush or flooded materials at the curbs and it will be picked up. If it's still there by Friday, call the Palatine Action Line at (847) 705-5200.

Have a (soccer) ball: This weekend Palatine Celtic Soccer's travel teams will host the 27th annual Celtic Cup Soccer tournament.

On the last day of the tournament, National City Bank will present the Palatine Celtic Cup Sportsmanship award to a team that best exemplifies good sportsmanship to both the girls and boys teams. Award presentation will take on the final day of the tournament.
