Library Card Sign-Up Month: In celebration of National Library Card Sign-Up Month, the Cook Memorial Public Library District Bookmobile will be making special stops throughout the district so residents can sign up for a library card and borrow library materials.

During September, the Bookmobile will visit:

•Independence Grove at 2 p.m. Sunday.

•Downtown Libertyville at 6 p.m. Sept. 7.

•Libertyville Train Station at 6 a.m. Sept. 10-13.

•Libertyville High School homecoming football game at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 14.

•Libertyville StreetDance, in the Metra Train Station parking lot, at 5 p.m. Sept. 15.

•Vernon Hills Train Station, at 6 a.m. Sept. 17-20.

•Westfield Hawthorn Mall, near Barnes & Noble, at 6 p.m. Sept. 21.

•Vernon Hills High School homecoming football game at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28.

Each child older than 4 who gets his or her first library card during September will receive a special treat from the Children's Department.

Cook Memorial Public Library District cards are free and available to all district residents over the age of 4. To obtain a Cook library card, bring a photo ID and proof of residency to any of the Cook Memorial Public Library District facilities and ask to fill out a library card application.

Proof of residency can include a driver's license, lease, mortgage statement, utility bill, mail with a recent postmark, preprinted checks or an insurance card.

Children younger than 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can show photo identification and proof of residency in the library district. Parents are responsible for materials checked out on their children's library card.
