Rose show: The Northeastern Illinois Rose Society will hold its Annual Rose Show on Sunday at Lamb's Farm, 14245 Rockland Road, in Libertyville.

The show will be located in the Country Inn Restaurant banquet room. The public is invited and admission is free.

Everyone is welcome to exhibit their home-grown roses at the show, including non-club members, novices and children. Participants are asked to bring their roses in a bucket of water, and the rose society will furnish the vases and entry tags.

There will be prizes and ribbons awarded in several categories, including a "novice only" category.

Rose entries must be taken to the banquet room from 7 to 9:45 a.m. on Sunday. From 10 a.m. to noon, judges will select the best roses to be awarded prizes.

The rose show will be open to the public at 12:30 p.m., at which time the winners will be on display. The show closes at 5 p.m.

Many rose growers from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin will exhibit hundreds of rose specimens. During the show, consultants will be available to talk about and answer questions.

Pet parade: The second annual Kildeer Pet parade will take place Saturday.

Registration for the parade begins at 10 a.m. with the parade beginning at 11 p.m. Both take place behind the Quentin Collection Mall, at Rand and Quentin roads.

Prizes will be given for the following: Largest pet, smallest pet, most unusual pet and owner-pet look alike.

Participants can also "Dunk a Cop" in the dunk tank. Food and drinks will be available by local Kildeer restaurants and music will provided by "Déjà vu."

Water and cooling stations with a fan will provided for pets.

The event is co-sponsored by Save-A-Pet Adoption Center in Grayslake.

Postcard sale: The Lake County Forest Preserves invites the public to purchase pieces entered in its biannual Postcard Art Competition & Exhibition.

The sale will run from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at three locations. They are the Lake County Discovery Museum, the Curt Teich Postcard Archives and the Lake County History Archives, all on Route 176 west of Fairfield Road in Wauconda.

Each piece is 4-by-6-inch postcard size. The assortment of works span a wide range of media including collage, fiber, digital art and watercolor.

Car show, swap meet: An auto parts swap meet and classic car show will take place on Sunday at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake.

The show is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will cost $7 for adults and $2 for children ages 6 to 12.

The fairgrounds are located near the intersections of routes 45 and 120 in Grayslake.
