Meadows takes top spot in 7A
Rolling Meadows hopes to be No. 1 in Class 7A when the football season ends in November in Champaign.
But the Mustangs are No. 1 in the Associated Press 7A state rankings a week into the regular season. They moved up a spot to the top as they routed Hinsdale South 41-0.
Lake Zurich, the preseason No. 1 in 7A, dropped to No. 2 after a 27-20 loss to Fremd.
Prospect, which visits Fremd on Friday, moved up a spot in the 7A rankings to sixth after a 10-7 win over Downers Grove North.
In 6A, defending state champion Normal Community moved up to No. 1 after beating Champaign Central 26-10. Joliet Catholic dropped to No. 2 after a 21-20 loss to Mt. Carmel.
Maintaining their No. 1 rankings were Tuscola (1A), Lena-Winslow (2A), St. Joseph-Ogden (3A), Driscoll (4A), Marian Central Catholic (5A) and St. Rita (8A).
