Cougars keep hopes alive

The Kane County Cougars saw a 9-0 lead slip away, but they regrouped to beat the host Peoria Chiefs 10-9 Tuesday night.

The victory tied the Cougars (34-28) with the Chiefs, 1 game behind Cedar Rapids for a wild-card berth in the Midwest League playoffs.

Alex Valdez had a pair of run-scoring hits for the Cougars.

In the ninth inning, the Cougars' Jermaine Mitchell led off with a double, advanced to third and scored what proved to be the winning run on a fielder's choice by Haas Pratt.

Andrew Carignan held the Chiefs in the bottom of the ninth to earn the win.

T-Bones 6, Flyers 5: The Schaumburg Flyers (19-24, 39-52) were eliminated from the Northern League playoffs after a loss to the Kansas City T-Bones in their final home game of the season.

The Flyers' Mike Rohde had 3 hits and a pair of RBI. Pat O'Sullivan and Alex Fonseca each added 2 hits.

Drew Dickinson (7-11) took the loss.
