Laugh away those end-of-summer blues at Blu Razz Comedy Night

Blu Razz, along Randall Road in South Elgin, has just the thing to fight off the end-of-summer blues.

On Thursday nights through the month of September, the club will be featuring Comedy Night, with performers who've had 'em laughing on Comedy Central, HBO and even "The Tonight Show."

It's been almost two years since the restaurant and club opened, and in that time owners Frank and Siri Morrone feel they've gotten to know their clientele pretty well.

They've been able to tailor their food and entertainment offerings so their customers keep coming back for more.

Over the past few months, they've started to expand their entertainment options in the nightclub portion of Blu Razz. As a part of that effort, they added Comedy Night a few weeks ago, bringing in comics who've traveled to clubs across the country doing their bits.

The laugh fest will continue on Thursdays through September, with The Mighty Jer-Dog up this week.

But even after the comedy lineup ends, the entertainment will continue at the club.

"Come October, we'll always have something different on Thursdays, whether it's a Las Vegas entertainer, a dueling piano or one of the favorite bands for people out there -- The Piano Man. We'll have something they'll really get into."

Morrone said since the club added the comedy night, it's been packed on Thursdays.

And since the entertainment options have grown, the club has been full-on every other night of the week as well.

"There really isn't anything else out here that's offering this kind of entertainment or nightclub," Morrone said. "We know there are people out there that want to get out, and they like what we have here."

On Monday nights the clubs offers free salsa lessons from 8:30 to 9 p.m., followed by salsa, merengue and Latin beats music. In conjunction with the evening, the chef prepares Latin-themed dishes, and the venue offers drink specials on margaritas, Corona and tequila.

On Tuesdays, Blu Razz has Turntable Tuesday, with three different DJs spinning records on stage.

Live music, with a different band each week, happens on Wednesdays, and that's when the place turns more into a martini lounge -- offering more than 50 types of martinis.

Friday and Saturdays, Blu Razz has more of a nightclub atmosphere. And Sunday evenings, Blu Razz is closed.

"It's something different every night. I think everyone will find something they like. We've added a lot of new things."

Free samples! It's finally open. Many of you have been craving their delicious chocolate. And now Morkes Chocolates is open just west of Randall, along Algonquin Road.

It's the business' second location; the first is in Palatine.

Stop in for chocolate in any shape and size you can imagine.

And don't forget the free samples sitting by the door!
