Des Plaines River Road to reopen today
Des Plaines River Road between Camp McDonald and Palatine roads will be open for rush hour traffic today, said Mount Prospect Mayor Irvana Wilks.
Part of the road last week had been closed after a massive storm ripped through the area on Thursday.
It prompted Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights to call a state of emergency in order to construct a removable concrete barrier and to stack sandbags against the barrier.
If the Des Plaines River had significantly flooded, homes in Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights would've been under water.
Today, the barrier and sandbags are being removed, work that started at about 11 a.m. Construction crews were expected to be finished for rush hour traffic, Wilks said.
