New rules for free rides
Because Septemberfest organizers had the heartache last year of turning away families during the time set aside for free carnival rides for children with disabilities, there are new rules in place this year. The free rides, provided by All Star Amusement, will be limited to residents of Schaumburg and Schaumburg Township, and fest goers will be limited to immediate family during the hours of 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Call (847) 884-0030 to register before the festival. Participation is limited to 500 and registration will be cut off when the limit is reached.
Hanover Park safety check
Hanover Park police will conduct a roadside safety check at an undisclosed location from 10 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday. Working jointly with the Illinois State Police District Chicago, authorities will watch for alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers. Officers will also take action if they observe other infractions including drivers license offenses, and equipment, insurance and safety belt violations. For details, call Sgt. Brian Roper, traffic unit supervisor, at (630) 372-4409.
