Charges filed in fatal St. Charles crash
A St. Charles man has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs nearly eight months after being involved in a fatal crash on the city's far east side.
Lab tests showed Jason D. Johnson, 28, of 1031 Madison Ave., had marijuana in his system at the time of the Jan. 8 crash, which killed 41-year-old Timothy Lambert of St. Charles, police said Friday.
Johnson now faces a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.
The three-vehicle crash took place shortly after 5 p.m. near the intersection of Oak Road and East Main Street, between the DuPage Airport and Pheasant Run Resort.
Eric W. Townsend, 23, of Wheeling, has been charged with causing the crash by failing to stop at the intersection, and also is accused of fleeing the scene. Johnson was previously charged with improper lane usage.
Police say Townsend darted into traffic from Oak Road, causing Johnson to swerve his eastbound cargo van and hit Lambert's vehicle head-on. Lambert -- a husband, father and West Chicago chemist -- died of head and chest injuries.
Johnson is free on $300 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 20.
