Briefs: No news in manhunt

Authorities did not release any new details about Thursday's chase from Algonquin through Barrington Hills, which led police on a manhunt for two robbery suspects. Barrington Hills police referred inquiries to Algonquin police, who did not return phone calls Friday. Police Thursday afternoon tried to apprehend two men after an Algonquin robbery, said Barrington Hills Village President Robert Abboud. The chase ended in a crash, and the search continued on foot. The search occurred near routes 59 and 68, and the incident delayed dismissal for students attending classes in the area.

Armed robbers hit 7-Eleven

Two men appearing to be purchasing cigars made off with less than $100 after one of them shoved an automatic handgun into the stomach of a 25-year-old store clerk early Thursday morning at 7-Eleven at 4244 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, police said. The two robbers, each described as in his 20s, 6 feet tall and 175 pounds, fled the store after the incident at 1:40 a.m. Thursday. The were last seen walking north toward Lake-Cook Road, wearing dark denim shorts, white T-shirts and baseball caps, reports said.

Charity car show Sunday

The Woodfield Area Children's Organization will host its charity car show from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at The Alumni Club, 871 E. Algonquin Road in Schaumburg. Registration closes at noon; rain date is Sept. 9. Entry fee is $20. The top 40 cars will receive trophies.

Palatine book sale

The Palatine library will host its Special Used Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The sale will include coffee table books, old books, collectibles, art books, illustrated, signed editions, quality, children's and special AV items. The library is at 700 N. North Court, Palatine. Admission is free.

Gambler charged at casino

Closed circuit television at the Grand Victoria Casino caught a woman at 3:15 p.m. Thursday placing a fraudulent bet, police said. She was playing three-card poker and added $100 to her bet after she saw her hand, which was a royal flush, according to a report. If she had won, she would have collected $5,000. Maria Feliz, 41, who lives on South Street in Rolling Meadows, was charged with gambling fraud, police said. She posted a $500 bond Friday morning and was released from custody.

Torah celebration set

Members of Temple Chai in Long Grove will participate in the Torah Mitzvah, a celebration of Torah creation and study. The members will be invited to write a letter in the torah under the guidance of Neil Yerman, a renowned scribe. The celebration starts with a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Sunday that includes singing, dancing and a call to torah. The event will May 9 with the sewing of the last panel on the torah scroll.
