Briefs: Addison fest resumes today

The threat of severe storms and high winds Friday forced organizers to cancel the second day of Chicago's West Suburban Festa Italiana in Addison. Onesti also is rescheduling a performance by Italian singer Patrizio Buanne for Sunday at 7 p.m. The fest begins at noon both today and Sunday at Centennial Park, 1776 W. Centennial Place. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and free for children ages 12 and younger. For details, visit www.oshows.com.

Rabid bat found in Aurora

Another rabid bat was found, this time by a 62-year-old woman in her Aurora home, the Kane County Health Department announced Friday. It is the third in the county this year to test positive for the disease. Of the three bats, two were found in Aurora and one in Elgin. Last year, just one rabid bat was reported in Kane County. The Aurora woman will be treated for possible exposure to rabies. Statewide, 68 rabid bats have been reported to the Illinois Department of Public Health so far this year. Bats are the state's primary rabies carriers. Health officials warn residents to protect themselves from exposure to bats and other potentially rabid animals and to report exposures to their doctor or the health department.
