Get all the backyard you need from Neumann Homes

The American backyard: it's the ultimate multi-purpose space where families relax, entertain, cook, eat, exercise and play. With so much going on in one area, things can get a bit crowded as a purple, dinosaur-shaped plastic sandbox competes for space with the 60,000-BTU, six-burner, stainless steel grill.

For those looking for a home with plenty of space for backyard activities -- and the accompanying gear and toys -- Neumann Homes has released nine home sites with extended backyards at Summer Gate at Southbury, a community of 104 single-family homes in Oswego.

Located just west of Route 59, Summer Gate at Southbury offers floor plans measuring 2,247 to 3,805 square feet. Homes have three to six bedrooms, 2½ to 5 baths, partial basements and attached two- to three-car garages. They are base-priced from $292,990 to $375,990.

"While all of our sites at Summer Gate at Southbury are sized at more than a quarter acre, these nine extended sites have up to 1,500 square feet of additional yard space," says Jean Neumann, chief marketing office of Warrenville-based Neumann Homes.

"To put it in perspective, that's roughly equal in size to half of a regulation tennis court, so homeowners will have extra room to play and relax in their yard," she said. "Plus, there's no premium associated with these sites, so buyers won't pay more for the additional space."

Neumann notes that the extra square footage is at the rear of the extended sites, creating deeper-than-usual backyards.

In addition to extra space, several of the extended home sites back up to a paved walking path that winds through the community. A landscaped berm separates the path from the home sites, defining each backyard to provide a sense of privacy while allowing access to the path. Additionally, the home sites along the path do not back up to other homes in the community, which says Neumann makes their backyards feel more open.

The extended home sites can accommodate any of the floor plans available at Summer Gate at Southbury, including the Westminster, a 2,958-square-foot home with four bedrooms, 2½ baths, partial basement and attached two-car garage. It is base-priced at $321,990.

Inside, the Westminster offers a first-floor den, game room, and a family room and eat-in kitchen, as well as a combined living and dining room. Additionally, the floor plan includes a second-floor laundry room, walk-in pantry and multiple bedrooms with walk-in closets.

Like all homes at Summer Gate at Southbury, the Westminster comes with features that include 9-foot first-floor ceilings; six-panel white colonist doors and trim; and energy-efficient inclusions such as a 92-percent efficient gas furnace and Low E argon-filled windows. Buyers also can select optional features to personalize their home, such as a fireplace, bay windows, and an upgraded master suite with a cathedral ceiling and luxury bath.

Summer Gate is located within the master-planned community of Southbury. Residents have access to the Clubhouse at Southbury which has an aerobics studio, exercise room, locker rooms, conference room, library, craft room and theater. The clubhouse is surrounded by additional recreational amenities such as walking trails, a picnic area, a tennis court, a tot lot, a sand volleyball court, and swimming pools for adults and children.
