Lake in the Hills, Carpentersville festivals boast fun and fireworks

The Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Festival is just around the corner and participants are still welcome in a number of areas.

The festival, which runs from Aug. 31 through Sept. 2 at Sunset Park, will feature carnival rides, food vendors, the county's best fireworks show (according to its organizers) and live entertainment.

Those organizers are in the midst of finalizing arrangements for the village's biggest party, and would like business owners, volunteers, crafters, and corporate sponsors to participate. All events take place at Sunset Park, 5200 Miller Road.

The Summer Sunset EXPOsure is the best place for businesses of all types to showcase their expertise or products for thousands or residents and visitors.

This year's EXPOsure will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 2.

The $50 EXPOsure fee includes: booth space that can accommodate up to a 10-foot-by-10-foot tent/canopy (electrical power will be an additional $25); your business name on the village Web site and inclusion in an article in this year's Summer Sunset Festival ad book; a link to your business' Web site from the village's home page; and exposure to thousands of attendees.

To register, e-mail expo@summersunset.com.

If you have a knack for crafts, the village invites you to sell your wares at the festival. Last year, more than 30 crafters were on hand to sell their handmade or hand-painted items.

The Craft Show is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 1. There will be designated parking for all vendors, and volunteers will help keep setup moving. Volunteers will also be available to help throughout the day for duties such as a "lunch run" for vendors who are alone.

Booth space is $50. Organizers will provide a 12-foot-by-12-foot space. All vendors will be on the grass and will need to provide their own tables, chairs and displays as needed. Setup will begin at 8 a.m. The show will go on rain or shine, and a tent or canopy is recommended to shield you from the sun or rain.

For more information call Janet at (847) 458-7010.

Volunteers are also needed to sell beer tickets, ride bracelets and for other duties throughout the festival.

Autumn fest update: In other festival news, the Carpentersville Parks Committee is working to finalize its inaugural Autumn Fest, scheduled for Sept. 9 in Carpenter Park.

Entertainment and various activities like potato sack races will highlight the festival.

Food and beverage vendors will also keep families fed and hydrated throughout the day.

To get the day started, a parade is set to loop around the park prior to festivities beginning. The village is seeking participants for the parade.

Additionally, if you have a band, sign up now for the Autumn Fest battle of the bands competition.
