Get in festive mood at circus-themed parade
A circus-theme lineup is coming to town for the first time in the history of Glendale Heights parades.
On Saturday, more than 50 units will make their way through Glendale Heights during the 13th annual village parade, with the theme, "Under the Big Top." The parade alludes to the Kelly Miller Circus that's going to set up shop in the village Sept. 19-20.
After the parade, residents are encouraged to stop by Camera Park, 101 E. Fullerton Ave. for more activities including a free concert by the Stingrays, featuring rock and roll music of the '50s, '60s, and '70s.
There also will be a marionette puppet show, pony rides, face-painting, a giant slide, an obstacle course, a train ride, a moonwalk, food and fireworks at dusk.
"It's just to get the people out and let them have a lot of fun," Special Events Chairperson Allana Zeiss said. "It's not an expensive thing for the people."
Currently, more than 44 groups have registered to participate in the parade, which will kick off at 3:30 p.m. The parade route will begin at Glen Ellyn Road and Fullerton Avenue, and will go west on Fullerton Avenue to President Street. The day's activities are organized by the village and Special Events Commission.
